The Palais

If you're looking for a buzzing social hub in Glasgow that offers hearty food, brilliant drinks, and a proper vibe - The Palais on Duke Street is absolutely worth checking out. Located at 380 Duke St, G31 1DN, this venue brings together everything you’d want in a local spot: warm hospitality, a cracking drink selection, satisfying comfort food, and entertainment that keeps people coming back week after week.

Right from the entrance, The Palais makes a good impression. The venue is fully wheelchair-accessible, with an entrance and toilet setup that's considerate of all guests - an important detail that’s still too often overlooked in many establishments. Once inside, you’ll notice it’s more than just a restaurant - it’s a community space, a casual pub, and a weekend night out all rolled into one.

Let’s talk food. One of the most popular choices here is the Beer Battered Fish & Chips, a classic done right - crispy golden batter, flaky white fish, chunky chips, and a side of mushy peas that add just the right touch of nostalgia. If you're craving comfort with a twist, the Halloumi Fries are hard to resist - golden, squeaky, and satisfying. The Palais Cheeseburger is another house favourite: juicy, stacked high, and generously portioned. And for those who lean vegetarian, the Halloumi Burger steps up without compromise.

For those in a share-and-snack mood, go for the Chilli Beef Nachos - absolutely loaded with toppings and perfect for pairing with a drink or two. And yes, while The Palais may not serve cakes (some guests do cheekily mention grabbing a Chelsea Bun from Greggs after), the Biscoff Sundae is a sweet finale you shouldn’t miss. It's indulgent, layered, and one of those desserts that demands a spoon war at the table.

Speaking of drinks - this is where The Palais really shines. There’s an outstanding beer selection, including popular pints like Guinness Draught, Madri Lager, and local options that cater to both casual sippers and craft lovers. The wine list is curated well for a laid-back setting, offering reds, whites, and rosés to complement the hearty food menu. But if you're more into cocktails, you'll be spoilt for choice - from a fruity Blackcurrant Cocktail to a bold Bloody Mary, and even a cheeky Baby Guinness for fun nights out.

And it’s not just about the food and drink. What makes The Palais a standout is the vibe. This is the kind of place where something’s always going on - live music, quiz nights, and live performances keep the energy alive, whether it's a chilled Tuesday or a packed Friday night. It's also a go-to for sports fans, thanks to the big screens and a crowd that knows how to celebrate a win (or drown a loss with grace).

Outdoor seating is another bonus - when the weather behaves, it’s a top spot for al fresco drinks or an easy-going meal in the sun. While they don’t offer takeaway or delivery, that just means you’ll want to carve out time to sit, relax, and take in the full Palais experience. Solo diners find it a comfortable spot too - the service is welcoming and the atmosphere unpretentious, making it easy to unwind with a book, a pint, or both.

Whether you’re here for the drinks, the food, or the vibrant community feel, The Palais brings that classic neighbourhood charm - the kind of place where you're tempted to become a regular. It's a refreshing find in Glasgow's east end, especially if you're looking for a laid-back mix of good times, good tunes, and good grub.

Nice local pub with great food. We came twice in two days. They even do gluten free options, although the waiters weren’t super confident there is a gluten free menu and options for gluten free burgers and pizza. (Pizza and pie pictured are regular gluten-ful dishes)

The Palais has been my local now since they opened a few years back. Always amazing service and food along with great chat from the staff who always make us feel welcome. I'd like to thank Carly, Cassia and all the other staff for making this my favourite place!

It’s been a year or two since I visited this bar but it’s undergone somewhat of a transformation. Pub quiz Thursday meant the vibe was buzzy and busy. The bar area is quite a nice place to sit and it has some seating for those wanting to eat. The draught selection was really good with Pravha, Blue moon, Madri amongst others. Dog friendly, cool and clean it’s a perfectly pleasant place to hang out

The Palais is a great pub overall, however I had lunch today and I have to commend the chef for the halloumi burger! It was the best halloumi I have ever had. Lovely and soft! So tasty! Gorgeous bun and the chips were phenomenal. I cannot rant about this burger enough. If I wasn’t already religious, then I would be now. If I could tell everybody on planet earth how much I enjoyed this culinary delight, I would!! 10/10!!!
